AERIAL FILMING (& PHOTOGRAPHY)
Since 2003 Hields Aviation has been providing the TV Industry with helicopters for Aerial Filming. We offer a wide range of services to suit all your needs;
- Basic 'door-off' filming;
- Ultramedia and High Definition Systems rigged to our helicopters;
- Helicopters and Aircraft (both classic and modern) for props;
- G-OTVI - purpose built and permanently rigged with a Cineflex/Ikegami gyro-stabilised camera, lipstick cameras, internal monitors, Digibeta & DVCAM recorders, live transmission facility, and UHF/VHF Comms;
- Aerial Photography (Commercial, Private & Air-to-Air Specialist)
- Day and Night Coverage
Clients range from the major Terrestrial Channels for News and Programmes to smaller Independant Production Companies. We are an approved supplier to both the BBC and ITV.
Recent work includes BBC Inside Out (National Immigration Special featuring a stunning piece to camera from the tallest building in Leeds and following the Inside Out Road Vehicle as it travelled the UK), ITVs Emmerdale (Police Helicopter) and ITVs Blue Murder (yet another Police Helicopter!)

THE RATES YOU PAY
Every job is generally different and we quote on this basis. The minimum charge is for 1 hour. Discounted hourly rates are available for larger film jobs and we can even offer a capped day rate. When putting a job to us for a quote, the following details are always useful;
- Dates & Times of the shoot(s);
- Locations;
- Type of shots required;
- Programme style;
- Time required on location (if known).
Onsite services such as groundcrew, support equipment and fuel are available if required. We operate all passenger flights under our own Air Operators Certificate (GB2183) in accordance with UK Civil Aviation Authority guidelines.
NEWSGATHERING
North of London we are the only company to have a helicopter permanently available for filming. This has proved extremely beneficial for Newsgathering as we keep G-OTVI fuelled and ready for launch at very short notice. This was demonstrated recently when we launched for BBC (News24 & Local) following the tragic incident with Richard Hammond at Elvington Airfield, York. Our aerial footage made BBC News long before the London based Helicopters got anywhere near (we were on our second sortie by the time the next lot arrived!)
WHERE IS THE HELICOPTER BASED?
Based at Sherburn Airfield in the North of England between Leeds and York we operate seven days a week for charter and training.
